Schtuff

Three demure young ladies with an appetite for fun established the Bird’s Nest in the fall of 2002. They lived and loved, which eventually led to one moving out to marry. Thus started the endless trail of girls that would shuffle and scuffle their things in and out of bedrooms, down hallways, up and down stairs, and most always at some point to the basement for safe keeping. For three to four years this went on. Girl after girl, move after move, more and more stuff accumulated in this dingy mold filled basement. First Della, Keely, and Kim, then Megan for a summer, then they traded Keely for Jessica and they added Tiffany. After Tiffany, Jesse and Kristen joined them, but just for the summer and in the fall they gained Jill and Kara, not to mention Keely and her new husband Charles in the Garage in November. Then in December they traded Kim for Laurie, eventually having to let them go to their new husbands but they soon accepted a few new birds for the summer, including the returning Miss Kristen Hudec and friends, Linden and Emily, plus a RUF familiar face, a one Miss Rebecca Robertson. They have also gained two other semi-permanent residents Sandy and Garrett, each in their respective spaces of course. And of course this fall they will be adding two more, Hillary and Colleen. That’s quite a list. That is a total of 18, if counted correctly.
1 Della, 2 Kim, 3 Keely, 4 Megan, 5 Jessica, 6 Tiffany, 7 Jesse, 8 Kristen, 9 Jill, 10 Kara, 11 Charles, 12 Becky, 13 Linden, 14 Emily, 15 Garrett, 16 Sandy, 17 Hillary, 18 Colleen.
That being said, there is a lot that happens when major groups of people move in and out at random time, over lapping most of the time and trying to figure out who’s stuff is who’s. The most common thing that happens is that the basement turns into a regular bargain basement. They have three; count them three papizan chairs in the house. Which is one of the worst chair options on the planet. Not to mention the most ugly (no offence to the girls who left them and are returning for the later). They have a futon with metallic duck tape holding the cushion together. There is a child’s school desk in the middle of clothes and another purple futon in the finished molding part, where the washer and dryer are, and the same place Della used to sleep back in the day. A few carpets and rugs, at least two dressers, several horrid rolling chairs that I think might be permanently stuck down there. A painting, a Pilate’s machine, three bikes, an ab-roller, a box of books, rows and rows of hangers, picture frames, plastic plates, junk, junk, junk and more junk. Now, granted a good 45% of this crap is Della’s that she has inherited from her sister’s and mother, and no offense to them but it really is crap. But the rest, the whole heap of it, this should be a warning those of you out there that belong to this stuff, you better come get it now, because by the time school starts it is either being sold, donated, or thrown away. The girls at the nest love all of you very much, but frankly they have had enough of your junk. It doesn’t have to go home, but it just can’t stay here. They are posting pictures of the problem items and if you would like to bid on something, please do so here.

THE CATCH

(what a great way to start out #7!)

Well, it started again today. I am currently watching Stage 1 of the Tour de Lance. If you know me or anything about me, you know that I love the sport of cycling and the American marvel that dominates the sport, Mr. Lance Armstrong. I don’t think it’s an unhealthy obsession, surely it’s balanced.

This is, however, my favorite time of year. Just like baseball fans love the World Series or football fans love the Super Bowl, or the World Cup (Sam), the Tour de France is the pinnacle of cycling events...... Ah I am watching history here, Lance is on Jan’s (pronounced YAWN) tail during the time trial oh my gosh oh my gosh..............................................................................................
..............................................YES!!!!!!! That was fan-damn-tastic. Wow, I need to catch my breath. That was the most amazing thing I have ever seen. You guys have to watch this over the next 3 weeks. I realize the OLN is hard to come by but there are ways to listen to live coverage on the internet. Oh yeah, and get a bike so we can ride together.

Crap, Armstrong came in second behind another american riding for CSC. By 2 seconds. Don’t worry, thats just stage one. We will be fine. 4 out of the top 6 today are American, George Hincapie (also a personal favorite and on Lance’s Discovery Team) came in 4th. Ullrich is 50 something seconds behind. He is getting an emotion beat down already.

And can I just say that Bob Roll cracks me up!!!! Where are the chops Bob???

Years of practice.

To answer the questions having to do with the previous blog, I have had years of experience perfecting the craft that is keeping others at bay. I would even include several years of being a pathological liar as the worst extent of the problem.

But more recently the problem stems from pride. In certain situations, I feel like I am a good listener, asking questions that seem appropriate. But, when conversations then turn back to me, I often give surface level answers that don't expose any yucky characteristics that I am trying to hide from the outside world. I either A) make answers seem as upbeat as possible, B) muddle my answers with useless qualifications, so that you can't possible interpret what the hell I'm really trying to say, or C) I respond with one-word answers such as "fine" or "good".

I have another entertaining habit of getting real deep real quick with someone I barely know, then because we have had such a "genuine bonding experience", I either never talk to them again or avoid them at all cost for several months. They, of course, know to much. Real healthy Della.

So you see, I have mastered the "guard". Well, I say it's time for the guard to come down, (when it's appropriate, of course). Time to make intentional commitments to relationships, and pull my head out of my ass. (to my brother and sister I apologize for the profanity, I know you think I am an angel, well the guard is coming down for you too.)

And as for the blog written by my good friend Brent Corbin, I to will stand-up and admit that I am obsessed with the idea of getting married. So much so that it hinders my view of the opposite sex and my relationships with them. You can almost guarantee that if you are male, I have already summed you up in my mind and have either put you in the "I-would-never-date-you" or the "when-are-you-going-to-ask-me-out-so-i-can-start-planning-our-wedding" category. I realize this might be a natural 20-something single girl thing to do, but it is SICK!! I know every last one of my girlfriends, (besides Kim) are either married or getting married. (officially or unofficially.) Doesn't mean I need to freak out. We single females, and males for that matter, (J-Do, Corbs, Hewey) need to R-E-L-A-X!!! Don't try to push to hard. We shouldn't settle for something that isn't right, for whatever reason.

This is my vow. I promise to chill out. To not read into potential relationships as if my life depended on it. To not compromise on major issues, now appropriately deemed "deal breakers". To love my male friends for whom they are, FRIENDS! To enjoy my singleness. To read and study scripture so that I can better understand God and myself, and his plan for me. To take advantage of time with my married friends while they are still here, and while they still have time to hang out with me. To learn from them, so that when I am married I will be somewhat prepared.

Please keep me accountable to this vow. I am looking to you for support and counsel.

Signing out for now.
